HOW TO PROMOTE DANCE CLASSES | How Should You Set Up Your Website?

By now, you should be familiar with what “local listings” and “search results” are. You also know that it’s important to rank in both, if you want to have the best chances of people finding your dance studio through Google.

Also, you should have already completed your “Google my business” account, and completed your listing. If you checked all the boxes above, great job!

Before we continue and talk about your website, I highly recommend that you check out our blog post “Your Dance Studio Website Is Losing You Money”.

Read this, so you understand what the goal of your website is. [Hint: it’s not what you think it is…]

Once you read that article, you’ll have a clear picture of what your website is supposed to do. Above all, the role your website plays in attracting you more customers. After you’ve read that article, everything will make a lot more sense!

With all of that said, let’s get into it…

In this article we’re going to be talking about the different things that your website needs to include, so that you have the best chance at ranking really high on the Google “search results”.

1. Don’t make the title the home page “Home”

Dance Studio Title of page named Home

...Remember… KEYWORDS!

Instead name your page something that people search for all the time, for example:

Dance Lessons For Kids in Miami… This will give Google clues as to what your website is about!

2. Make sure that you write a HEADLINE…

...and include important keywords while you’re at it!

Do you remember that scene from Man In Black where they erase people’s memory? Well, you want to pretend that the same thing happens to the people who land on your website. They lose their memory and they don’t know where they are!

Write a headline that tells them exactly where they are. For example: “Dance Lessons For Adults In Miami” or "Ballet Dance Lessons For Kids In Santa Monica".

3. Include your phone number and address at the very top of your website...

Not only does Google use this to verify the information that you have on your “Google my business listing”...

But it’s the first thing that everyone looks for when they go to your website!

4. DON'T use stock photos or photos of your dance studio

Instead, use images of your IDEAL STUDENT (preferably students that are already attending your studio)!

People don’t care about stock photos or pictures of your studio. They want to know that if they go to your studio, or take their kids to your studio, there will be other people or kids like them!

So make sure you use images that look like the regular students that you get in your studio!

5. Name your images using KEYWORDS!

Don’t name your image happy_kid001.jpg

Google needs to understand what your images are about to help you rank better. The way you name your images matters!

Many websites I’ve seen don’t have much content written in them. All they have are pictures, videos, and a few headlines! Remember that your website is not a photographer's portfolio (lol).

Videos and pictures are fine, but Google needs to be able to read something on your website to know what it is about. This way, it can rank you on its search results!

Ensure that you write SEO driven content that includes a lot of keywords, so that it helps your rankings!

7. Include the CITY where you’re located!

This one seems obvious! But so many studio websites don’t even have the city where they do business!

This is KILLING your rankings!

8. Techy-Tips

Tip #1: Keep your images “light”, below 150KB. This will help your website load faster, and Google will reward you for it!

Tip #2: Optimize your page so that it looks good on mobile. More than 80% of people browsing the internet do it from their phones. Therefore, Google rewards the pages that look good on mobile!

Tip #3: Add a “Google Maps” with your studio’s location. This will help you rank better on “Google my business” local listings…

There you have it!

All these changes above, that you can implement on your website today, will allow Google to favor your website in the “search results”. Making these changes will also help your “Google my business” local listing!

Once you’ve implemented these changes, be patient. Over time, you should start to see your page rank higher, and higher.

Google doesn’t refresh their listings everyday. In fact, sometimes it takes a few months to see changes. But, I guarantee that if you followed everything that I have taught you here, you WILL see results.

Like I have mentioned before: If you do SEO correctly, you only need to do it once. It will pay you dividends for many years to come!

IMPORTANT NOTE: I highly recommend that after you set up your website like I taught you here in this article… You do NOT make any more changes to it! You can change the pictures or other details, of course. But, if you start  changing the structure, or the copy on your website, you might accidentally delete something, or make a change that will cause your page to rank lower. So, once you make the changes, leave it, and be patient.

By now, you probably know how important it is to have your website set up correctly… And how powerful SEO can be for you! Yet, you might still feel like you don’t have the time, or patience to do it yourself.

The good news is that we can do this for you! We actually build websites exactly how I’ve described them to you here, with the purpose of ranking high on Google, and getting you more students!
