Dance Studio Advertising | Your customer journey

Before we get into the nitty gritty of how to set up your dance studio advertising, I want to teach you how to think about your advertising.

If you understand these fundamental concepts, it will make it so much easier for you to run successful advertising campaigns…

So let’s start with the customer journey…

In fact, for the next minute, I want you to think about the beginning of your own dance journey...

What was your dance journey like at the beginning...

It probably started when you were younger…

Maybe you were the kid who loved to dance at home whenever the music was on, so your mom put you in dance classes...

Perhaps you saw a beautiful ballet, and you told your parents you wanted to learn how to dance like them!

Or, maybe you’re like me, who started to dance towards the end of my teenage years because I wanted to overcome my shyness, get out of my comfort zone, and get over my fear of dance…

At some point, most of us had a moment in our lives when we were not attending dance classes…

Then, something happened that motivated us to go to the dance studio…

What was that thing for you (or your parents) that made you end up at a dance studio for the first time?

Think about that because we’re going to come back to it later...

Who is your ideal client?

One of the biggest mistakes studio owners make whenever they start to do advertising for their studio is to market to EVERYONE!

That is the fastest way to burn your advertising dollars, especially when you’re doing social media ads.

Here’s why...

Think about the ads that YOU see on social media.

How many ads do you pay attention to, and how many ads do you just scroll through them without even giving them a second look?

My guess is that you only pay attention to what’s relevant to YOU!

If you have a very generic ad that’s not really relevant to anyone, then people are NOT going to pay attention to it...

Why would they, when they can easily find stuff that’s relevant to them if they just keep scrolling on their phones…

Decide who you’re going to advertise to.

So, if you want to be successful with your dance studio ads, then you need to figure out who your ideal client is…

Who are they?

What are they looking for?

What are their dance goals?

Why would they want to go to your studio?

Is it a parent who wants his/her kid to be more coordinated?

Or, maybe it’s a parent who wants their kid to do something healthy, and connect with other kids his/her age.

Perhaps it might be an adult that wants to do something fun after work, as well as meet new people.

Think about your customer journey.

When I asked you earlier about “what made you end up in a dance studio?”

The answer was probably NOT because you wanted to become a professional dancer...

So, if you (or your parents) would have seen an ad that read “best dance studio in the area… We have the most professional dance teachers!”

That probably wouldn’t have inspired your parents to take you to the studio...

In fact, that probably would have sounded intimidating…

Now, let’s connect that with your customers.

Knowing where your ideal client is in their journey, will help you understand what their motivations for coming into a dance studio would be…

And knowing what their motivations are will help you figure out how to write your ads, what to offer them, and everything you need to know to make your dance studio advertising work.

Dance studio advertising | Put a marketing, follow up, and sales plan in place

Now, that you understand who your ideal client is, all you have to do is set up some social media ads that are relevant to your ideal client, and BINGO!

You turn on the ads, and start enrolling new students and COLLECTING CASH!

The end, right?

Well, it’s actually not that simple.

A lot of people think that in order to get more students you just have to know how to do facebook ads, or google ads, but that’s only the beginning…

You see when it comes to making your advertising work, there’s a few components that you’re going to need to have in place…

  1. Social media ads
  2. Landing page that collects contact details from the leads
  3. Follow up system that gets your leads to come in to your studio
  4. Sale system that converts prospects into students

You see, social media ads (like facebook or instagram ads) are an effective way to let people know that you EXIST.

A facebook and instagram ads bring your studio into the awareness of people who have never heard of you…

It also gives you a chance to offer them something…

Then, you invite them to come into your landing page, and ask them to give you their contact information in exchange for the offer that you’re giving them.

Once you have their information, then you have to be able to follow up with them to get them to come into your studio…

And last, once they are in your studio, you need to have a structured “presentation” and a second offer that you give that prospective client, so that they sign up for your studio.

That’s the big picture for how to make your social media dance studio advertising work.

Now, let’s take a deeper dive into each component of this whole strategy.

Dance studio advertising | Social Media Advertisement | Facebook ads and Instagram ads

The facebook ads platform (which includes instagram) is a super powerful tool to reach your ideal clients.

You can specify to Facebook that you want to show your ads to people who live 5 miles around your studio…

You can specify the demographics of exactly the person that you’re looking for…

What age they are…

Whether they are a parent or not…

What job title they have, and much more…

But…

The most important part about facebook and instagram ads is the copy of the ad and the offer…

You need to make the ads relevant to your ideal client…

Write a list for what your ideal clients’ motivations are for learning dance (or for having their kid learn to dance).

Then use those motivations to get their attention...

Once you have their attention, give them an offer that they would be interested in taking…

Dance studio advertising | Landing page

Once people click on your Facebook or Instagram ad…

Those people will get taken to a special website called a “landing page”

A landing page is a very SIMPLE page which it’s only purpose is to collect the contact information from the people who land on it…

Here’s an example:

Usually you want to keep the information in the landing page down to a minimum.

Perhaps you only have a headline, a picture, and a button…

Once people click the button, it will open up a pop up where the person can fill out their contact information… (Check the image below)

Keeping this page simple is KEY.

You don’t want a person who lands on the page to get confused and overwhelmed with information because they will just leave without giving you their information…

So have a brief headline that says…

“Here’s what we’re offering, click the button below if you want it.”

Dance studio advertising | Follow up system

A lot of studio owners do the top 2 steps, where they set up some facebook ads, and a landing page…

They get lots of leads, but they don’t get lots (if any) new students from it…

Why does that happen?

The answer is because they DON’T FOLLOW UP.

This step is where most people fail when doing marketing…

You see, someone that saw your ad on Facebook/Instagram is completely distracted.

They are just scrolling through their news feed, and watching random videos…

Then your ad shows up…

They were interested in the offer you presented to them, they clicked through to your landing page, and gave you their contact information…

1 minute later they are back on Facebook/Instagram scrolling their life away, and 1 hour later they completely forgot that they even gave you their information.

The key to making your social media dance studio advertising work is to FOLLOW UP FAST!

I’m talking about within 5 minutes of the person giving you their contact information, you have to make contact…

Send a message, or call them, but REACH OUT to them, invite them to come into your studio, and answer any questions they might have…

Once you they give you a date for when they want to come in, then you want want to send them appointment reminders so that they actually show up…

If you don’t do this, I guarantee you that you are not going to have success with your ads.

“This is A LOT OF WORK” You might be thinking right now…

Well, it is… But that’s the only way to do it if you want to fill up your dance studio, and have success with your advertising…

You can also AUTOMATE this follow up process, where you can use technology to help you do this, without you even having to move a finger…

Dance studio advertising | Sales system

The point of the follow up, is to get people to come to your studio…

But, just because someone walks into your doors, doesn’t mean that they are going to enroll as a student.

You need to have a process that converts your prospective clients into students…

Let me give you an example…

This was the way we used to do it at our dance studio…

  1. Greet the person who walked in.
  2. Give them a questionnaire that asks them about their dance goals...
  3. Get them to talk about their dance goals…
  4. Talk to them about how the studio works…
  5. Show them the prices
  6. Tell them if they sign up today before they leave, they’ll get a “fast action offer”.
  7. Let them try their class
  8. Get the teacher to make an announcement after the class is over so that the new people go to the front desk…
  9. ASK them to sign up at the end of the class

These 9 steps are scripted out, rehearsed, and executed like a dance choreography.

And it is done exactly the same way for every new person who walks into the doors, EVERY SINGLE TIME.

The reason for why you always want to repeat the same system every single time is because it will allow you to have predictable results…

On top of that, at some point you’ll be able to delegate that task to someone else!

If you want to learn more about this sales system that allows you to convert prospective clients into students in a predictable way, check out our article below:

Dance Studio Advertising | Conclusion

There is much more to your dance studio advertising than writing an advertising message and setting up social media ads...

That is just the beginning.

Facebook and Instagram ads, will allow you to get the word out, and let your community know you exist.

Then you need a good landing page that collects contact information…

After, you’re going to need to follow up with the leads so that you can get them to come into your dance studio.

Finally, once you have those people showing up at your doors, you will need a sales system that allows you to convert prospective clients into students in a predictable way…

This is the surest way to be successful in your dance studio advertising, so you need to put in the work to put up all the pieces in place.
